men in hosiery

If your English isn’t very good, then you probably think this is something naughty. But actually “hosiery” is a fancy word meaning clothes that you wear on your legs. The fancy name is from when a company called “Hosier” made them. They can be called “hose” too (but not like “hoes”).

What classifies something as a hosiery? It’s hard, because they say it’s clothes for your legs. But normal pants you wear are also clothes for your legs, but they are not called hosiery. They say hosiery can be these:

- Stay-ups: they are the long see-through stockings that go to your thigh and have a sticky thing on them so they stick to your skin and “stay up”.

- Leggings: these are made like pants, but their material is soft and they are very tight. They could also be like tights without the bottom toe part. 

- Long socks: these are normal socks, but they go up until your shin or until your knee or your thigh sometimes, depending on how long they are.

- Stockings: woman wear stockings together with a suspender under their clothes, and the suspender has little clips where you clip your stockings on so they “stay up” (not to be confused with stay ups).

- Tights: these are like an extra layer of skin made of cloth, or like a sock that is so long it goes until your belly button. In America they call it “pantyhose”, and it sounds kind of naughty. 

- Toe socks: actually I think those don’t really count, but Wikipedia said they are also a part. They are basically socks, but each toe is in it’s own hole, like in a finge glove (the name is made from the same concept -> toe socks, finger gloves).

I know a lot of girls, and all of these items are popular with them for many reasons. For example leggings were a fashion trend in the 80s and 00s. And tights are really popular too because they are good for keeping warm. 

But there is a new fashion trend, because a lot of men know about hosiery and think they are cool. You can wear them a lot because they feel nice, so some men started wearing them. I am going to introduce you to Eugene Wong, who is a hosiery-for-men advocate. I think it’s nice.

If you want to wear hosiery like tights, here are the rules.

You can wear them with elegant shoes and nice shorts and it will look kind of posh. This look is good for the office.

It’s cool because he matched his “tights” or “pantyhose” color with the color of his shirt, and the goes with his shorts. I think this would be okay for an office where people are laid back.

You can also wear them more casual, like when you are in a new city and you are being a tourist.

Basically it’s a good look for visiting a place like San Francisco for instance, because in San Francisco it can be super hot and then super cold all of a sudden. Also, if you wear shorts you feel more summery, but with the tights you are still warm. 

There are also other good reasons to wear the tights. Sometimes you just want to hang out, but you know how when you wear short shorts or wide  shorts people can look inside your pants? If you don’t want that, you can basically wear tights and no one will see anything they are not supposed to see. This is an example by Eugene:

I think tights or pantyhose for men is a big trend. There is always a lot of trend when woman start wearing stuff that men used to wear, and men wear stuff that women used to wear. So if you want you can take this look.

fashion for halloween - a style guide

It’s gunna be Halloween soon, so I am going to show you some cool outfits for your party!

This first one is an easy one, it’s a farmer. Basically farmers work a lot and don’t care so much about fashion, so you need to get that look. 

First of all, take jeans that are baggy and big, because it’s very popular with farmers. They are easy to move in and can get dirty. Then put on old dirty looking shoes. Just imagine you are going to work in mud all day, and don’t want to wear your nice shoes. I used my ankle boots cuz they are dirty and manly. Then put on a baggy shirt with a pattern on it that you feel a farmer of your home town might wear. This way it will be more authentic. Then you can put a bandana around your neck. Bandanas are really popular with farmers because they are so versatile. Then you put on a sloppy sun hat. That’s because farmers work in the sun and get hot.

For extra authenticity, you can use a farmer looking cloth and let it hang out of your pocket like it’s just there, and you don’t even know. Then put a wooden spoon/fork in your other side, because it’s like you were working and came straight from work. Also, the most important thing is how you pose. You have to pose like you don’t care how you are posing. Don’t smile into the camera, because that’s not typical for farmers. On this photo I am with my friends, they are dressed as a worker and as a gypsy. They are a very plausible group of people for a farmer to hang out with, so it’s more authentic. Try not to go with someone who dresses up as a princess.

Outfit number two:

This one is a classic because it’s a pretty popular outfit: a cat. 

This outfit is pretty simple, because you can just be a black cat. The more advanced version is a tiger cat or a naked-hair cat. To be a black cat, you wear a lot of black. You can wear black leggings, black shoes, a black shirt and a cat hat. Also, it’s important to have a tail. Black gloves are good to make your hands look like paws. You can also wear cat-eye make-up, cuz you’re a cat. Gold is okay too, because it’s like a collar.

To be authentic, you need to act like a cat. For example you can bite your tail, and when you see someone dressed as a squirrel, you can jump on them like you want to eat them. 

You can also use cool accessories like black nail polish and jewelry and a black whip. 

There are lots of other outfits you can dress up as (THIS for instance), but those are the basic ones.

new series: how to pose with inanimate objects

This is so important. Sometimes you have to take a photo, but you need to make a really good fashion pose. This is a series about poses you can do with inanimate objects. 

1: Hug them. Everything looks more happy if you hug it.

2: Become one. You can be inside the object and be like it is the same person as you. But in reality it’s like an object.

3: Pretend it is eating you. This is funny, cuz inanimate objects can’t eat. It’s like ironic or a metaphor or something.

4: Look through it. It’s like saying “this is my object, and I do with it whatever I want!”

5: Hold it like it is dangerous like a weapon.

6: Pretend it is your friend!
